Raw Talent Barbering Competition

COMPETITION:

The Raw Talent Barbering Competition, sponsored by VTCT, is brought to you by Modern Barber Magazine, BARBERFEST and Mike Taylor Education with the aim to provide a platform for barber students and junior barbers to showcase their skills.

WHO CAN ENTER:

Entrants must be currently undertaking a formally accredited level 2 barbering qualification, currently registered on the Hair Professional Standards (Barbering) or recently qualified within the previous 12 months.

HOW TO ENTER:

Round 1: Entries will be judged on photographs uploaded to the Modern Barber Magazine website - (www.modernbarberawards.co.uk). For further details on specific requirements, please see the Photographic Requirements section.

Round 2: The chosen finalists will be invited to recreate their look on a live model at BARBERFEST. Please note, should you reach the finals, you will be required to provide your model.

Freshers

This category is for students - ideal if you’re working towards a level 2 qualification at a college or training academy

HOW TO ENTER:

Round 1: Entries will be judged on photographs uploaded to the Modern Barber Magazine website - (www.modernbarberawards.co.uk). For further details on specific requirements, please see the Photographic Requirements section.

TIMETABLE & ENTRY DEADLINES:

  • The closing date for entries to this competition is Tuesday 1st June 2021 at (5pm). Under no circumstances will entries be allowed after this time.
  • Finalists will be notified on within two weeks after the deadline (and announced on Modern Barber Magazine Facebook).
  • Finalists will be required to attend BARBERFEST on Monday 5th July at Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel for the live final.

PHOTOGRAPHIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Each photographic submission must comprise of at least TWO head shot photographs.
  • These must show only front and side head shots. 
  • All entries must be the original and the unassisted work of the applicant.
  • For round 1, photographs of work created on either headblocks or live clients will be accepted to ensure you can safely follow COVID-19 government guidelines.

JUDGING:

  • The competition will be judged by top industry professionals, there will be four judges to make sure all the entries are judged fairly.
  • Entries will be judged solely on the following, as evidenced by their photographic submission:

                Skills

  • It should be noted that all photographic materials submitted by entrants would be of sufficient quality to enable proper judging (photos taken on mobile phones will be submitted).
  • Any entry that is of poor photographic quality, and therefore insufficient to be accurately judged will be discarded by the judges.

FINALS:

The finals will take place at BARBERFEST on Monday 5th July where the entrant will be required to recreate their look live on a model. Please note, should you reach the finals, you will be required to provide your model.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS:

This category is for apprentices - ideal for anyone currently on the Hair Professional Standards (Barbering) Apprenticeship

This category is for junior barbers - ideal if you’ve recently achieved a level 2 qualification in Barbering (within 12 months)

COST OF ENTRY:

Entry to the competition costs £10 per entry. Every entrant will receive free entry to BARBERFEST usually £15. This includes entry for your model, should you reach the finals.
